Top tips to optimise accuracy in your medical transcriptions

So, you’ve made the decision to place the medical transcription element of your operations into the capable hands of mi-Transcriptions. It’s a decision that will save you money and give you valuable extra time to spend with your patients.

Our experts specialise in working with medical, allied and health practitioners in private practice, hospital and medico-legal environments. Much of our work involves complex, specialist medico-legal transcription, and consequently our team of experts understands medical terminology.

At mi-Transcriptions we strive for excellence in service and the highest levels of accuracy in everything we do. But what can you do to help us ensure the most accurate transcriptions possible?

Here are our four top tips to help you make the most of your mi-Transcriptions service:

Clarity

Find a quiet area in which to record your dictation. This will ensure your voice is clear and unimpeded by background noise. Remind yourself to speak clearly and at a steady pace, and try to avoid letting your voice fade-out at the end of sentences. Relax, speak simply and pace yourself – not too fast, not too slow. Try to think in one sentence at a time.

Consistency

Use similar phrases in each of your report types, and be consistent in the way you approach similar reports. This will allow your transcription team to develop and maintain a style unique and appropriate to your practise.

If in doubt, spell it out

Spell technical terms or jargon that might not normally be found in the mainstream of daily medical applications. Similarly, spell out all proper names and specific terms – Rose Ann, Roseann, Rosanne and Roseanne will all sound the same to the transcriber. Spell out unusual street names and the names of cities, towns or suburbs.

Punctuate

Always include punctuation, especially when starting new paragraphs. State “open” and “close” quotation instructions. And, don’t forget to say “End of Dictation” once you have finished dictating each report.
